چکیده
Abstract Similar to many chiropteran species, pregnant and lactating evening bats Nycticeius humeralis form maternity colonies bear raise their pups. Although bat roosts have been studied in other locations, knowledge gaps exist regarding roost site selection on the Gulf Coast of Texas, United States; thus, our objective was quantify characteristics this region. We radiotracked 11 female subadult 9 during June July 2018 2019 captured San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge (SBNWR). No transmittered roosted SBNWR instead all were located 3.6–4.5 km from same capture site, within an 81-ha residential area a 5,496-ha city. Five nine tall, live, live oak trees Quercus virginiana one home. Colony size occupying ranged 16 500+ bats. All bats, including those properties which we denied access, stayed for full life transmitter (5–21 d) no switching occurred. used SBNWR, potentially foraging, results suggest provided suitable characteristics. A lack may available areas or selected high quality. recommend future studies increase sample sizes as well assessing monitoring bachelor colony winter ecology.

—We examined attributes of 45 roost sites used by 17 adult male evening bats (Nycticeius humeralis) in a diverse forested landscape within the Ouachita Mountains, Arkansas. Bats roosted in a diverse array of substrates, including live or dead Pinus echinata $15 cm diam at breast height (29% of roosts) and small (,10 cm) understory or midstory hardwoods (20% of roosts). Sixty-three percent of ro...

We radio-tracked 11 red bats and 5 Seminole bats (L. seminolus) to 64 and 34 day roosts, ! respectively. Individuals of both species were found roosting within the canopy of the roost trees, clinging to leaf petioles or the tips of small branches (~4 cm in diameter). Red bats roosted primarily in hardwoods (970/o), whereas the roosts of Seminole bats were located primarily in pines (94%). Ten o...

We radiotracked 17 male northern long-eared bats (Myotis septentrionalis) to 43-day roosts and 23 females to 49-day roosts in the Ouachita Mountains of central Arkansas during summers 2000–2005. We compared characteristics of roost trees between males and females, and compared characteristics of sites surrounding roosts with random locations for each sex. Roosts were located in cavities, crevic...
